So I wanted to start a blog.
That was the easy part.
Next came the decision on where and how my blog should end up on the internet.
There are a lot of blog providers out there, but I already knew the "big two" Wordpress and Blogger, and figured that if I was eventually going to need support or plug-ins for my blog, then going with one of the two big blogging providers seemed like a smart choice (and I was pretty sure that I would need lots and lots of help about setting up my blog!).
Reading up on the two online it seems that it is largely a matter of preference if you go with one or the other.
The biggest difference is that you can download a Wordpress "kit", which you can use to create your own blog on a domain name and host of your own choosing (if you pay for that), thus removing you from the whims of the blogging providers (potentially a good idea if you want to make a "controversial" blog dealing with sex or gambling).
The big advantage that Blogger held for me was that it is a Google owned service, so it easily integrates directly with your google account, and will also slot in nicely with Google Analytics and Google Adsense (if you want to try to make a monetized blog).
So, already having a gmail account I thought that going with Blogger sounded like a sensible idea.
So far I have had no reason to regret that, as the whole process of creating the blog, choosing a name, layout and creating posts has been very straight forward.
I do wish that the analytic parts of Blogger that is built into the service was a bit more comprehensive, but since signing up for Goggle Analytics is so easy, then I suggest you just do that and then you can have access to more detailed data from there.
By the way, the problem with data analyzing is something that is the same with Wordpress, from what I understand from a blogging friend of mine that has gone with the "download kit" solution.
