Interconnecting your blog with other social media sites

Once you make a blog you have a platform for expressing yourself.

You'll want to let the world know in as many ways as possible that your blog is out there, for example by using the various methods that I discussed in my post about getting traffic.

Besides this direct promotion to get traffic there are also the more indirect methods, such as setting up a Twitter account, Facebook page or Youtube channel.

None of these outlets will necessarily bring in more readers by themselves, but it gives you presence in social media sites that millions of people visit every day.

My personal thoughts about Facebook and Twitter is that I want any medium I present my blog in to add value to any user that uses it.

By that I mean that if I make a Facebook page for Light Speed Gaming, then I want that Facebook page to be more than just notifications of when I post new entry on my blog.

There should be a reason, why a reader would want to actually follow my Facebook profile, which means that I would need to create unique wall posts and maybe have discussions that are separate from my blog posts.

Similarly on Twitter I want a profile that does more than simply spit out a tweet every time I make a new post.
Following me on Twitter should provide more insight into what I'm thinking and maybe give you some links and stories that I share on Twitter, but that are not significant enough to make a blog post about.

Since running a blog is already quite a lot of work, I have decided that I will initially not make any Facebook page for Light Speed Gaming.
I simply do not feel that I have time enough to make meaningful content for that page, while continuing to pump out new content for my blog.

I have however created a Twitter account (LightSpeedGmng), which I have tied to Feedburner, meaning that every time I make a new post on Blogger, it will automatically get picked up and a tweet will be created with the post headline and a link to the post.

In addition to that I make it a point to always create at least 2-3 tweets every day, even if they're just a little "what's up" update or a retweet from people I follow.
This is my attempt to keep the Twitter channel feeling like a meaningful addition to the blog.

I think that whatever social media platform that you're thinking of adding for your blog, you should think about "how will this add value to my audience?" and "do I have the time to make it worthwhile, or should I just be focusing on making more quality blog posts instead?"
